26 AugI am back and ready to knit!

I started one of the orphan scarves last week at the lake, so far I am not so happy with it, but it’s only 4 inches long.  Yesterday, I went out and got the yarn for the KAL sweater.  I wanted a cashmere blend, but I ended with a Peruvian wool.  I also wanted a soft grey color…but they didn’t have enough of any shade of grey (!?!).  I settled on a nice light taupe/tan.

I also picked up a yarn ball winder…but I did not get the swift (?). That was a mistake. I am going to have to get one of those. 🙂 The first ball I tried to wind turned into a huge tangled mess and I ended up having to cut it at one point. Not to mention the fact that it took some 4 hours (or so) to get completely untangled and wound.

I hope to start my swatch tomorrow and then I need to practice the cable and lace patters. Wish me luck!

17 Augcoming up

I finally have a plan! Who would have thought? I went out this week and purchased the yarn to make 3 red scarves.

I know, I know, it’s the cheap stuff *gasp* but I think it will work. One of the patterns I chose is cabled which I think will help in the KAL.

As for the KAL, I downloaded the pattern *yikes!* I just need to find some yarn….

Anywho, I’ll catch y’all later. Heading to Chelan for the week.

13 AugOrphan Foundation of America – Red Scarf Project

I am so excited!  I have been needing a little inspiration to get knitting again and I think I found it.  Even though I really dislike red, and as a fairly newish knitter, I have made several scarves…how inspiring it to knit scarves for orphans going to college?!  For more information, check out the Orphan Foundation of America – Red Scarf Project website.

I am also looking for a knit-a-long…. Currently, I am thinking about the Cables and Lace Kimono Wrap Cardigan Knit-A-Long. One problem (?), I have never knit cables or lace…is this too hard to learn on? We’ll see…

09 Auglame

All right, so how lame am I to not have posted in nearly 2 months!  In my own defense, I have been really busy at work and I have not knitted for a while.  I was working laboriously on a little sweater for my niece and was heart broken when the puppy obliterated the darn thing and I have not been able to bring myself to knit since.

More importantly though, I had a rib removed, and well, I don’t think I could knit right now if I wanted too.   But, I am on “vacation” for a month given said rib removal, and as soon as I can, I plan to find some inspiration and knit something.  I’d really like to join a knit along, but I keep missing them.

While I have been home lamed up, I have been reading like a crazed woman and re-read the fist 6 Harry Potter books and finished the 7th one a couple of days ago.  I was just checking Amazon.com and saw Charmed Knits: Projects for Fans of Harry Potter. How cute is that? I am tempted to get it.

23 Junhats and other news

Whew!  Another school year over.  I love summer time because it means summer hours and I can get to work before 9:30 am (I tend to get a lot more done if I arrive before 7ish).  Anyway, along with doing all of the end of the school year things, I learned how to knit intarsia…but I am afaid I need to learn how to weave the colors in across large areas.  This is the litte hat I made for a baby shower!

In other news…I finally did it…I quit smoking.  I went to a hypnotist with my co-workers and we quit.  I would not attribute the quitting to the hypnotherapy, but I did it and it has been 6 days!!

Finally, I bought myself an iPod as a quitting smoking present and I am currently knitting an iPod cozy.  If and when I ever find my camera battery charger (or get a new one) I can take a photo of it.
